Secret’s Out – Big White Perch are In
12 03 2016The annual spring run of Nanticoke River white perch is in full swing. Fish to 13-inches have been caught on my boat by anglers dunking bloodworms on #4 bait-holder hooks. When the tide’s right this is fast and furious fishing. Great for the young angler in your life. Bring the kids and have a blast!

Big Chains
4 03 2016We’ve been catching some big chain pickerel while casting for crappie and perch on the Pocomoke River. You would think with using the light lines that we do for the panfish those toothy pike would cut us off more often, but they don’t. Seems these cold weather pickerel have a knack at hooking themselves in the corner of their mouth leaving the light monofilament unscathed. A short length of fluorocarbon leader would pretty much seal the deal.

Pocomoke Slam?
7 02 2016I guess you could plug in any three species on any body of water and invent your own grand slam. Here on the Pocomoke River, it’s a rare day when we don’t boat a slam of some sort. Of late, it’s been pickerel, crappie and yellow perch. The occasional bluegill and largemouth bass can be added to the mix as well. Later on, white perch and hickory shad might join the crowd. Fishing the Pocomoke is a lot like Forrest Gump’s proverbial box of chocolates, “You never know what you’re gonna get.”

Susquehanna Flats – Take 3!
20 01 2016Josenhans Fly Fishing is currently taking bookings for the Susquehanna Flats catch & release season that runs from March 1 through May 3. That being said, I’m only fishing April 10 through April 22, so I have a very limited number of dates available. Half, 3/4 and full day trips are available. Fishing license and top-of-the-line Sage and G.Loomis tackle is provided; as are my custom tied flies, ice, bottled water and soft drinks. The past two flats seasons have been a washout, so let’s hope the third times the charm. There was a good number of thirty-inch rockfish in the bay this past fall, so I’m counting on their return to the spring’s pre-spawn staging grounds. When it’s right, there’s nothing like it! Contact me to discuss your trip at 443-783-3271 or kjosenhans@aol.com.

Pocomoke Awakening
14 01 2016Crappie, yellow perch and pickerel are biting on the Pocomoke River. When the water temperature dips into the upper 30’s after several cold nights a jig ‘n minnow combination helps goad the cold-blooded fish into eating. As the temperature climbs above forty the panfish and pike will take flies and small plastics more readily. Catches of thirty to fifty fish per angler are possible when conditions are right. The water is clear and ice free so come on out and give it a try!

2015 Striper Season Ends With A Bang!
21 12 2015We had a fantastic finish to the 2015 striped bass season with periods of unseasonably warm weather, above average water temperatures and some great light tackle, shallow water fishing well into December. While there were some large fish to be had jigging plastics and metal out near the shipping channel the majority of my clients opted for the quiet confines of the Smith Island creeks and shorelines. Light spinning and fly gear provided steady action on rockfish averaging 18 to 26 inches. A super way to spend the extra days of warm fall weather we were given. I’m now setting my sights towards catching crappie, pickerel, yellow perch and bass on the beautiful, dark waters of the Pocomoke River. I will be running four and six hour trips from Byrd Park in the historic eastern shore town of Snow Hill, MD. Call or email me to schedule a pleasant mid-winter trip on this scenic tidal river. Capt. Kevin Josenhans: cell 443-783-3271 or email kjosenhans@aol.com
