Red Drum at Risk

25 01 2014

Recently, there was a motion made by the Maryland Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission to explore the possibility of allowing the harvest of one trophy red drum (greater than 27 inches) per angler. Personally, I am against any such regulation being enacted. The Chesapeake Bay has seen a tremendous resurgence in the red drum fishery in recent years and I believe this is a direct result of the current slot limit (18 to 27 inches) and the protection of the large drum. States from Maryland to Florida have similar limits.
