Detour to the Pocomoke River

21 05 2015

Strong northwest winds kept us off Tangier Sound on Wednesday so we decided on Plan B. Fished the Pocomoke for bass and my friend Jack McKenna caught a couple nice bass on fly. Top water no less. Great idea Jack!

No Place Like Home

20 05 2015

Back fishing Tangier Sound yesterday. Like riding a bike. Except the bike was wobbling there a little in the morning. Finally hit pay dirt on the last of the flood and beginning of ebb. Never underestimate high tide in the islands. Managed a bunch of nice stripers to 27 inches. No speck sightings.

Week Two – Stripers Take Over

12 05 2015

High highs and low lows is how I would describe week two in our quest for trophy red drum. Stripers have filled in the gaps at times but there have been periods of tough fishing as well. Drum have been elusive this season for lure fishermen. The wind and muddy water has had a hand in our low drum count. I have also enjoyed a front row seat as to the benefits of a tower with this type of sight fishing. Especially since my aging legs have been telling me that repeatedly jumping up onto the top of the center console, for better visibility, is not in their best interest. We did have a few days of excitement with fast moving stripers in very shallow water. Once you sight cast to a pod of 45″ rockfish in crystal clear water you won’t ever want to go back to the LTJ crowd! The Hogy Original in 10″ has been the lure du jour. The highlight of the week was a 47″ striper landed by Burgess Kegan on a Shore Tackle custom 8-weight fly rod! We hope to end this third week on a drum note! Week One Red Drum

2 05 2015

Managed a couple 48″ bull reds this week but had to constantly fight cool water. Looks like next week will reach the 70’s everyday so that should get things moving. Need to get that water temp over 60 and keep it there.
