Tangier Sound speckled trout catches have improved of late. We enjoyed a couple of good days recently while casting D.O.A. CAL Shads to stump-infested waters near the many marsh islands in this area. Rigged on a 3/8 ounce jig head the shad tail exhibits a remarkably lifelike swimming action that entices both specks and rockfish. Be careful while cruising the shallows near the islands as the centuries old stumps love to gobble-up bright, shiny lower units. Slow go is a must. I look for speck catches to steadily increase, with the peak sometime in late September.
