Caught several of these today mixed in with perch in the Choptank. Probably 10 miles upriver of the mouth. Seem to be everywhere this summer.

I get a lot of father/son and father/daughter bookings each season and it’s always a fun trip. I love seeing family’s fish together and I’m happy I can be a part of their experience. My dad got me interested in fishing and as you can probably tell it really took hold. Happy Father’s Day Dad, miss you.

After a short stint along the Virginia eastern shore for trophy red drum and stripers I’m finally back on my home waters of Tangier Sound. Speckled trout are slowly trickling in along with some decent shallow water rockfish action. Some of the specks are BIG! Water clarity has generally been very good, aside from the occasional pocket of mud caused by marauding schools of cow nose rays. They can really make a mess, and once they move onto a flat it’s best to pick up and move to greener pastures.

This true story is a reprint from 2014 but it’s a good lesson for anyone who fishes in cold weather environs. Hypothermia is a real and present danger whether fishing from boat or shore. Be careful out there.
